THE PLACE I CHOSE TO LIVE

I live in a small Swiss Alps village with 13 inhabitants. The corona virus did not seem to have changed life in this village. In my case, still, many days I haven't met other people, there are very few outside activities and go to the grocery shopping in town once every 7–14 days.

However, there are changes for me as well. I am more connected to the world than ever. I started watching World News. As all, I realise that the world I don't know could directly related to my health and safety. Distant stories are no longer stories of others.

More, I look out the window and observe my surroundings and phenomena. My mind does not stay here, but tries to move space-time to another world. And I bring the scenery and imagination of the day into the studio. I still hold the same brush and paint in a similar everyday life, but we know how this pandemic offers us a new sense of space and vision. Thus, my new painting series during the lockdown, 2020 reflects the new landscape and experience.

SOME PAINTINGS OF EARLY SPRING 2020 (Series) (2020)
Anna Choi
Malerei
Spring is one of the quietest seasons of this small town. In addition, the flights have stopped crossing the sky dozens of times a day in 2020. The village is even quieter. Still, spring comes to the field. The scenes and sensation of these days are recreated with the intention of capturing Green's vitality on the surface of the canvas.

THE WAY BACK FROM THE GROCERY SHOPPING (Series) (2020)
Anna Choi
Malerei
I go through the road again, the road I've been to at least twice a month in the past decade. The road passing by car, the scenery outside the car window is new, for some reason. Isn't the scenery in the mountain countryside more colourful than before? Is it because of reduced noise and pollution? I focus the eyes alternately over long and short distances and try to find out what make it different.

WHERE I WENT TODAY (Series) (2020)
Anna Choi
Malerei
During these quiet days, a lot of thought comes and goes. I am here and there in mind. Crossing past, present and future. Crossing the world where I have been and I have never been before. Remembering old memories and education while trying to overcome the limitations I am confronting. This series is a painting of writing and erasing repeatedly that mind journey.

THE WAY BY SWANN'S (2020)
Anna Choi
Malerei
This painting collection is titled 'The Way by Swann's' from the book title of Marcel Proust. It is a book I have not finished for a long time. My relationship with this book is always ongoing. It is alive.

My painting has although abstract but purposeful process. However, there is a moment when the process of painting an image meets the content drawn. These are moments that can be described as lucky or magical. That is the moment when the process itself is transformed into purpose.
